Please carefully read the instructions below to apply for a Nationality: ​

Please be aware that the Embassy will only accept complete application forms including all supporting documentation as per the instructions above. **Please ensure application forms are printed and signed by applicant, and that all information is accurate.
Citizenship by Descent

You were born outside of Belize and one of your parents is a Citizen of Belize.
-
You were born outside of Belize before Independence Day (21 September 1981) and one of your grandparents is a Citizen of Belize.

Guidelines:
-
Correctional Fluid not accepted on form.

Applicant’s signature must be consistent with signature on identification document provided.

Original documents must be presented at time of submission along with copies.
-
Supporting documents must be in good condition and legible.
-
Ensure names of applicants and/or parents/grandparents are consistent on documentation provided.

Any change in name must be supported with legal documentation. E.g. adoption certificate, deed poll, etc.

Any document not in the English language must be translated by a certified translator
-
Application form must have been completed within six months prior to submission.

Form with errors or scratches may be rejected
-
An affidavit is necessary to clarify errors in spelling of name.

Affidavit to be completed by individual whose name is to be clarified.

Only in the case of minor children can parent complete affidavit.
Primary Documents to be Submitted:

Need to be submitted with the following specifications:2 x 2 inches, white background, facial front view, no sleeveless clothing

You are required to submit an original birth certificate

If applicant does not have a passport:

Below 18yrs- Birth certificate must be apostille by issuing authority

18yrs and above– must provide a form of photo identification.

Affidavit if parent name is different on documents submitted
Proof of Belizean lineage can be verified with the following:
Original Birth certificate of applicant: identifying parents, translation if not in English language.

Copy of Belizean parent or grandparent birth certificate. If parent is a naturalized Belizean, nationality certificate must be submitted.

Copy of Belizean parent or grandparent passport or form of photo identification such as:

Belize Voter’s ID,

Belize Social Security Card

Death certificate if parent or grandparent deceased

Submission of application:
Submission can be made in person or by mail at the Consulate of Belize in Washington DC, Miami, Chicago or Los Angeles.
All documents and completed application must be submitted via email to CONSULAR.USA@MFA.GOV.BZ

Once reviewed you will receive an email confirming that your documents are in order and given an appointment date and time or you will be instructed to mail all original documents to the Embassy along with a prepaid envelope to return original documents (after completing the process). Kindly note your original birth certificate will be held by the Department of Immigration until the end of the application period.
